Icelandic adventures, Weddings and the Milky Way! https://www.t-sqd.co.uk/blog/2016/9/the-year-so-far Wow!

I have to say I'm sorry for not posting anything for such a long time but this year has been such and adventure I really haven't had the time to write anything for you (well actually I have started several posts just not finished them - a bit like the kitchen!)

So I'm not going to start this and not finish it but what I am going to do is not write a lot that way I can just show you what we have managed to do!

So the start of the year it was a visit to Iceland (NO -not the high street store!)

Witches Hat Iceland is amazing (I'm told it does get green in summer but I like the snow) the sights were truly out of this world....

Fire in the Sky and the nights were just as good.... Green Lantern's And the roads well....

and they led into other realms.....

The Valley of No ReturnThe Valley of No Return

After that we have had some great weddings that we have loved shooting...

Run down sand dunes.....

And finished the summer off seeing the Milky Way....

While the aliens tried to find us....

I hope the rest of the year will be just as amazing and if you would like to be involved please just give us a call.

Over the Rainbow https://www.t-sqd.co.uk/blog/2016/2/over-the-rainbow On a recent walk to blow the cobwebs out of my head -I had gone and got my self man flu! - I was stomping around Langsett Reservoir, which is an amazing place any time of year, with the aim of getting some Landscape shots and trying out a couple of bits of equipment.

Well it started well, I set-up the camera in the first spot I could find near the Reservoir and as I was taking my second shot the wind decided to pick up my filter case and a glove and see which it could get to the water first! So off I shot after them both only managing to get my glove before been dumped into the water :( Ummm... I was not impressed, as I watched my filter case bobbing up and down on the water I shouted at myself for not putting it in my bag while simultaneously remembering that stuffed in the case was my lens cloth (Always carry two lens cloths). I returned to the camera and got another couple of shots off before repacking and backtracking my way a little to see if the filter case was shoreward bound yet. There it was just a few meters round the corner waiting for me it a very suitable place to get it :)

Langsett ReservoirView from the Reservoir bottom

Setting off again round the reservoir to find another location to set-up and after saying "Hello" to the dozen or so ramblers all looking a little wind swept I wondered how bad the wind would be on the top of the moor. I was soon to find out and it was not in my favour as it was blowing off the tops and down the hill towards me. Struggling my way through the wind, I managed to reach the top on the hill with a magnificent view of the reservoir, the surrounding area and time for it to rain on me -I say rain but it was more mizzle with hail stones in the mix. This mix of wet windy and sunny weather gave birth to a Rainbow which was stunning, but as I admired it I was not taking and shots! Oh yeah that's what I had gone out to do was it not? So I managed to capture one picture of the Rainbow just as it was fading into nothingness........

Langsett Rainbow

Back down the other side of the hill I want and into the woods here the footpath split , well it appeared that way, so off I went to see where the river went. Not far but far enough for me to get my feet wet and muddy, the woodland was pleasant and at least the wind was negligible here.

Path to Nowhere

Just a quick walk back through the woods and after another string of "hello's" to more ramblers, I arrived back at the car just a couple of hours after I had left but the wind had done its job.

The Round House Project (AKA The Christmas Present) https://www.t-sqd.co.uk/blog/2016/1/the-round-house I love the outdoors and I like to get out as much as I can when I'm not working especially if its with the kids, but I wasn't expecting what I got for Christmas...

A Round House experience.... What is that I hear you ask...

Well let me tell you it wasn't what I expected it to be......

Firstly what exactly is a round house? Well its a semi-permanent structure built from natural materials and is built only with hand tools (by hand tools I don't mean the kind that have batteries or run on petrol).  The building was to be Octagonal with a reciprocal roof that would be able to hold its own weight, built in a local woodland.

On the first day we managed to erect the uprights and get several cross beams in place, then it was time to brave the night camping out in the woods.

Now the weather forecast for a weekend in January can be very hit and miss and fortunately the rain did miss us, however the snow didn't and since we were to be camping out it it was going to be a cold, cold night.

A Cold Night

I survived the night in the near sub zero temperatures only by occupying two sleeping bags and wearing thermals (and socks) but the following morning braving the cold had all been worth it......

Winter Wonderland

Now all we had to do was set the rest of the cross beams in place and get the roof on - with the extra difficulty of the snow. We persevered with the cold and by early afternoon the roof was finally in place much to my relief (and my frozen fingers).

With a hot drink we celebrated our hard work over the weekend and it was with much regret that I would be all too soon leaving a great bunch of people the only hours before were complete strangers and were now great friends.

I hope that I will be seeing some of the Guys 'n Girls that participated again as it would be great to catch up and hopefully see the Roundhouse taking on a little more shape.

I would like to thank my Wife for an amazing Christmas present, Green Man Learning and Howl Bushcraft for running the course (please can you do make sure next time we do this in the summer).

Autumn Colours https://www.t-sqd.co.uk/blog/2015/10/autumn-colours If you have ever met me you will know that I love Autumn, although it never last long, I just love the colours that occur during this season.

From green to dark red the change seams to happen over night.

Then the next day its all over, the trees are naked and asleep waiting for Spring to arrive, some times I think that Autumn has been by-passed and never happened at all.

For a photographer this time of year can be a challenge (to put it politely) not enough light, too much cloud, heavy winds and don't forget the RAIN! Not only that the colours change so rapidly that even if the weather eventually allows you out the colours may be wrong or the leaves have completely fallen off!

With all that in mind I still love this time of year, even if I'm only allowed to watch it from the living room :)

When in Rome (or Wales)......... https://www.t-sqd.co.uk/blog/2015/8/when-in-rome So we have just returned from a magnificent trip to Wales, the Site was great the scenery was fabulous the weather was just.....well.....just.... Oh come on its Wales were talking about it TIPPED it down (not from the get go we did see some sun, but the tent is still drying!)

What I love about Wales is the diversity of the area, you have rolling hills (or mountains), great valleys and some amazing beaches. The photographer in me loves all of this and given the time of year I was hoping from a little more than 2 days of sunshine (but you take what your given in Britain never mind Wales) so I got to it the day we got there.....

The Milky Way

The Milky Way has been on my "must take" list for a couple of years (I managed to get it while in France last year but not like this) so I set off at dusk knowing at about 10:30pm that it would start be appearing on the horizon, about two hours later I gingerly made my way back of the hill with a smile on my face knowing that I would have some great shots to edit later.

On the second night in Wales, the forecast for the rest of the week had taken a turn for the worse (little did we know how wet it was going to get on our final two days!) so I marched up the hill again to capture the sunset as the clouds began to gather.....

(Welsh) Dragons Breath

It was a stunning evening and I was more than happy with the outcome, but I wasn't to know that this was going to be the last of the sun for the foreseeable future!

So after waving Wales good bye until next year, (yes were going back, were mad ;) ) we made it home a little wetter than we arrived, but had a great time and we got a great stash of pictures as well - check more of the pictures out here Landscape

Aston Martin DB6 https://www.t-sqd.co.uk/blog/2015/8/aston-martin-db6 One thing about taking photographs at car shows is you never know what you will see.

Most of the time its the same old thing, but some times you get little gems like this the Aston Martin BD6 (Forgive me - MMMMMMMMMMM!)

This is one of my all time favourite cars, the lines, the colour, the noise!

Abandoned Vintage Fire Engine https://www.t-sqd.co.uk/blog/2015/8/abandoned-vintage-fire-engine While visiting a family friend in 2013, I went exploring around the warehouses nearby, that were situated on a spure of the canal.

Behind one of the warehouses I spied this old beast

Vintage Fire Engine

I felt very sorry for the old thing but started to wonder what it had seen during its life, I am sure that it would have had many stories to tell!

I went on to find a further 3 different ones around the site all in different states. Later, asking about them it turns out that the owner of the site collects them then renovates them when he has time & money, sadly for this one the time and money didn't look forthcoming.

I am hoping to visit again soon and I am hoping that this one doesn't look as sad as it did back in 2013.

BBC Weather https://www.t-sqd.co.uk/blog/2015/8/bbc-weather So at the beginning of Spring the BBC were asking people to send in pictures showing the signs of spring, so I decided to send in a picture that I had taken that weekend while playing with a new lens.

Well imagine that, I got a message on Facebook from a friend telling me that the picture had been used on the Six o'clock weather forecast on BBC1!

As I only got the message a couple of hours later I had to rely on the iPlayer to see my pic :) BBC Weather So all was not lost I managed to see my moment of national fame even if the pic wasn't credited to anyone it still made me smile.

Here is the video (very poor quality sorry) if you are interested.
